It is tough to be a couple…
It is tougher to travel together as a couple …
But man, try to be a traveling couple in a long distance relationship! You really got to be Titans of Love!
.
We have been in a long distance relationship for over 2.5 years now.
We meet mostly in our bases (Brazil or Canada), where we are pretty comfortable and know very well how to get around.
But last year we started the real challenge: discovering new wonderful places together around the world!
.

In the middle of the year we did a small trial. A (un)controlled experience!
We visited San Francisco, Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, Bryce National Park and Zion National Park.
It was just 3 weeks and we had friends in every place we visited who helped us to get around and gave us shelter.
But it was already pretty stressful to spend so much time apart then finally meet each other completely out of our comfort zone. Plus, Ana was sick and we had no idea what was going on with her. Later we found out she got chikungunya in Brazil, what made her feel like a 90 years old lady, who could barely walk because ofย the severe joint pain the disease causes (it took her 6 months to recover, so please, put tons of mosquito repellent guys!).
.

Now, just picture this: the plan was to HIKE in 3 amazing national parks , and the girl showed up with terrible joint pain! And we had no idea what was causing it!
Moreover, Darko got only 3 weeks off from work, so there was no way to move dates and it was too late to change plans. PLUS, we had not seen each other for the last 3 months… FUN!
Really: we have no clue how we survived that and managed to have tons of fun. (Cause we DID have lots of fun!)
We learned a lot about each other, about stress management and about our (lack of) planning & execution abilities…
.

After that, we thought we were ready to plan a bigger adventure: 3 months in Southeast Asia! After spending 2 months apart …
We screwed up in soooo many levels of our planning … and soooo many levels of our execution ๐
But we learned quickly and we had the time of our lives.
And we came back even more in love and even more grateful for having each other and for having the chance to travel together and discover such amazing places, people and cultures.
We came back even more sure that the issues of an LDR are nothing when you have a giant amount of love and commitment involved.
And that the challenges of traveling together as a couple are nothing compared to the personal growth and the amazing love story we are building.
We can’t wait for the next adventure together…
.

We will share in the following posts some of the lessons we’ve learned while loving, traveling and resisting the distance. So hopefully, you do not need to go thru the same struggle!
.
Feel free to share them with friends who are going crazy on a LDR or that don’t seem to be able to survive a trip with their other half ๐
.
Believe us, if we are making it happen, loving it and growing from it, so can you!
